Presidential Representative for the WTO Azizbek Urunov also became head of the Committee on Food Safety

The representative of the President of Uzbekistan to the World Trade Organization, Azizbek Allaberganovich Urunov, has been appointed concurrently chairman of the Committee on Food Safety. About this with reference to the resolution of the head of statereportedpresidential press secretary Sherzod Asadov.

Azizbek Urunov is Uzbekistan’s chief negotiator for accession to the WTO. He has held this position since July 2025. Before that, from June 2023, he worked as the special representative of the president on WTO issues.

From 2018 to 2023, Azizbek Urunov was a senior consultant in the Presidential Administration, where he oversaw WTO and EAEU issues. In 2018, for a short time he headed a department in the Ministry of Investment and Foreign Trade, dealing with state development programs. Previously, in 2015-2018, he headed a department at the Ministry of Economy of Uzbekistan.

Urunov graduated from the University of World Economy and Diplomacy. He also received a Master`s degree from South Korea`s KDI School of Public Policy and Management and studied at Said Business School at the University of Oxford.

For the position of Deputy Chairman of the Food Safety Committee for compliance and internal anti-corruption controlappointed Elyor Kholmatovich Talaboev.In this regard, he was relieved of his post as chief inspector of the secretariat of the head of the Presidential Administration.

Appointed Deputy Chairman of the Food Safety CommitteeFurkat Zakirovich Zhalilov.In this regard, he was relieved of his post as chief inspector of the Department of Legal Expertise and Comprehensive Analysis of the Presidential Administration.

In March at the Chamber of Commerce and Industrydiscusseddraft presidential decree on the introduction of a unified surveillance system in the field of food safety, veterinary and phytosanitary control.

According to it, it is planned to combine all functions related to state control in the field of food safety - phytosanitary, quarantine, sanitary-epidemiological, hygienic and veterinary control systems - into a single committee.
