Uzbekistan to Allow Labeling of Products and Services with the Halal Sign
According to the Resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers, from May 1, 2025, products and services certified in accordance with the requirements of the Standards and Metrology Institute of Islamic Countries (SMIIC) will be able to be labeled with the Halal mark.The government approved the procedure for certifying products and services in accordance with the Halal requirements, as well as the rules for their periodic assessment.
The Resolution approved the following proposals of the Agency of Uzbekistan for Technical Regulation and the Committee for Religious Affairs:
creation of bodies for certification of products and services for compliance with Halal requirements;
provision of priority status to standards adopted by SMIIC and recognized at the international level when establishing certification requirements;
permission to label products and services with the Halal mark from May 1, 2025 based on the requirements of SMIIC standards.
The Agency for Technical Regulation, together with the Committee for Religious Affairs, will accredit the certification body in accordance with international standards within six months.
A draft standard defining the shape and dimensions of the “Halal” sign will also be developed and approved.
The regulation will enter into force three months after its official publication.
