Uzbekistan updated the annual record for the export of watermelon - in just two months of season

The watermelon confidently claims the title of one of the main hits of the fruit and vegetable exports of Uzbekistan in 2025. In just two months of this year-in May-June, the export volumes of these products in natural terms significantly exceeded the annual indicators of previous years, Eastfruit experts note.

As in the previous few years, this year the mass export of a watermelon of a new crop from Uzbekistan began in May. According to statistics from international trade and the National Committee on Statistics, in the first two months of this season-in May-June 2025, Uzbekistan exported 127.4 thousand tons of fresh watermelon. This is 22% more than the previous record set by the results of only 2023. Thus, the new historical maximum has reached in just two months of the current season.

As for export geography, more than 98% of the total supply of these products in May-June 2025 falls on the total share of three countries-Russia (66 thousand tons), Kazakhstan (41.9 thousand tons) and Kyrgyzstan (17.7 thousand tons). The rest of the export of the Uzbek watermelon - less than 1.5% of the total volume, was shipped to Belarus (968 tons), Mongolia (618 tons) and other countries (180 tons).

Back in September 2023, Eastfruit experts analyzed in detail the tendency to increase the volume of export of fresh watermelon from Uzbekistan and identified key factors that allowed Uzbek manufacturers and exporters to achieve record results in 2022-2023. Such factors are - the displacement of the beginning of mass exports for earlier terms and the increase in the volume of shipments in the first month after the start of mass shipments, thanks to the technologies of closed soil. It is obvious that the updating of the previous historical record in the first two months of the current export season is a continuation of the trend observed over the past few years - a shift in the time of entering the new harvesting market at an earlier period and an increase in the available volumes of the early watermelon.
